Independent technical evidence

Electrical Engineering Expert Witness

Clear, independent technical analysis for disputes and claims involving electrical systems, high-voltage infrastructure, renewable energy and complex project delivery.

Who this is for

Solicitors, insurers, owners and commercial teams who need an independent electrical opinion they can rely on. The work is taken where the technical issues sit inside the practice: high voltage systems, power electronics, renewable plant, battery storage, commissioning, industrial electrical systems, hazardous areas, functional safety, and incident investigation.

It is not a general “engineering expert” listing for building services or consumer electrical matters outside that experience.

Expert support

Engagements can begin with a focused preliminary opinion before progressing to a formal report. That is often the most useful first step: it tests whether the technical issues are real, material and capable of being proved from the available records.

  • Preliminary merits and technical issue assessment
  • Review of designs, standards and project records
  • Failure and root-cause analysis
  • Independent expert reports
  • Conferences with instructing teams and other experts
  • Clear explanation of complex technical evidence

How the work runs

Instructions are confirmed in writing, including the questions to be addressed and the documents to be relied on. A preliminary review identifies gaps and whether the questions are the right ones. If a formal report is required, the opinion is confined to matters that can be supported by evidence, stated assumptions and the applicable standards or engineering principles.

Where later evidence is required, the form of that work follows the rules of the relevant court or tribunal and the applicable expert witness code or practice direction.

What you receive

A written opinion that a non-technical reader can follow without losing the engineering. Assumptions, limitations and the documents relied on are stated. Where the evidence does not support a firm conclusion, that is said plainly.

Independent duty

Opinions are evidence-led and prepared independently of the commercial position of the instructing party. The duty is to the court or decision-maker where that applies, and in every case to a conclusion that can be defended from the record.

Experience this draws on

Relevant background includes high-voltage commissioning, high-power power-electronic and drive systems, renewable generation and BESS, substations, operational asset integrity, hazardous areas, functional safety, structured root-cause analysis and ICAM incident investigation, and engineering input to legal and commercial teams on defects and claims. That is delivery and investigation experience, not a claim to have appeared in every forum.

Do you start with a preliminary opinion?

Yes, where it helps. A short merits and issues assessment can show whether a full report is warranted, or whether the questions need to be recast before more cost is incurred.

Are opinions independent of the instructing party?

Yes. They are evidence-led, transparent about assumptions and limitations, and prepared independently of the commercial position of the instructing party.

What records do you need?

Designs, standards, correspondence, test and commissioning records, incident reports and the contract documents that allocate the relevant obligations. Missing records are treated as a limitation on the opinion.

Do you give evidence in court?

Where instructed, work can include written reports, expert conferences and explanation of technical evidence. The form of any later evidence depends on the matter and the rules of the relevant court or tribunal.
