RPEQ Electrical Design Review
Independent electrical review by a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland, scoped to the decision and the technical risk. It is not a retrospective stamp of completed work.
Who this is for
Owners, developers, contractors and project teams who need an independent registered electrical review for a Queensland energy or infrastructure project. Typical triggers are a hold point, a financier or owner requirement, an unresolved design risk, or a need to understand whether the available evidence supports a decision.
It is not a residential solar or small-install sign-off service, and it is not a way to obtain RPEQ cover for a design that was completed without appropriate professional involvement.
What is reviewed
The review is limited to the artefacts and systems that matter for the decision. We do not comment on everything in the pack as if every observation carried equal weight.
- Design basis, drawings and single-line diagrams
- Protection, earthing and power-system interfaces
- Calculations, studies and supporting reports
- Specifications and technical schedules
- Standards and specification compliance
- Departures, concessions and unresolved risk
How the work runs
A short scoping discussion confirms the decision being made, the systems in scope and the information that can actually be provided. An information request follows. Review effort is then directed at high-consequence systems, novel arrangements, weak interfaces and gaps in evidence.
Findings are discussed as they emerge where that helps the project, then issued in a written form that can be actioned. The depth of the review is agreed up front so the work stays proportionate.
What you receive
A concise record of material findings, the requirement or principle each finding rests on, recommended actions, and residual risk. Comments that do not affect the decision are kept separate from issues that do.
Where a certification, acceptance statement or other formal declaration is required, the applicable legal, contractual and technical basis must first be established. Any conclusion depends on sufficient investigation and the professional responsibility involved.
Not a retrospective stamp
Carrying on a professional engineering service in Queensland is regulated under the Professional Engineers Act 2002. An independent review by an RPEQ electrical engineer is a professional engineering service in its own right. It does not retrospectively place the original designer under RPEQ supervision and is not an administrative sign-off of completed work.
Experience this draws on
Reviews are informed by delivery-side experience on utility-scale renewables, battery energy storage, high voltage infrastructure, industrial electrical systems and commissioning, including matters where design gaps later became defects, delays or claims. The point of the review is to surface those issues while they can still be closed.
Is an independent RPEQ review the same as signing off someone else’s design?
No. It is a separate professional engineering service. It does not retrospectively place the original designer under RPEQ supervision and is not an administrative stamp of completed work.
What artefacts do you usually need?
The design basis, current drawings and single-line diagrams, relevant studies and calculations, specifications, and a clear statement of what decision the review is supporting. Incomplete information is recorded as a limitation, not guessed through.
When will you issue a formal RPEQ statement?
Only where the legal, contractual and technical basis has been established, and where the investigation and evidence are sufficient for the responsibility involved.
Do you review residential solar designs?
No. The practice is focused on energy, industrial and infrastructure projects where the electrical risk and professional responsibility are material.
